Mary Lou Gresham

About

Mary Lou Gresham's studio is located in the country outside Edmond, OK where she and her husband live.

Her innate creative talents are used to exalt elements of life that she cherishes: Love, Joy, Humor, Beauty, Generosity, Sacrifice, Innocence, Imagination, Quirkiness, and Commitment - all gifts from God.

"I'm hooked on the tactile sensation of shaping clay with hands," shares Mary Lou.  "Clay is basically earth mixed with water. Add fire.   The final step in raku firing -- when you place a glowing hot work into a container and hear the “phwump” as paper ignites and flames shoot up before slapping a lid on it -- it is especially exciting. The serendipitous quality of raku to celebrates the life God eventually brought out of His primordial creation; out of earth, water and fire."

"Bronze too, is reshaping earthen ores by melting them together in a fiery furnace, producing fluid bronze to pour into a mold made of something by hands. Bronze becomes a durable, visual feast that celebrates blessings in lives. Wedding Kiss, inspired by her nephew’s wedding; The Reader, inspired by her humorous, gentle grandfather; Dawn of Hope, inspired by a young man whose only son was born 3 months after his airplane crashed in World War II; and so on. Every bronze has a story that swells my heart."

There’s challenge in taking earth’s basic elements and reshaping them to form something that bonds people together. Mary Lou's joy is when other people, recognizing something we share on an elemental level, are drawn to touch, hold, and feel uplifted by her work.
